What to expect

After receiving a prescription from an in-person visit with healthcare provider, schedule

an appointment at Family O&P.

If you are a diabetic with Medicare, they require a prescription from an in-person visit with an MD or DO, the doctor overseeing your diabetic care.

At the first visit, the staff will review your paperwork and insurance to confirm everything is in order.

Initial evaluation and discussion on what shoes will be best suited for your particular needs. The goal of orthopedic shoes is to provide a safe environment for your feet so you can participate in your daily activities.

You can also decide on style, color, etc.

A cast or scan will be taken of your feet if you are receiving custom shoes or insoles.

Our staff will begin working behind the scenes with your doctor and insurance carrier to obtain proper documentation and pre-approval.

Fabrication time varies depending on your needs, availability, and insurance authorization.

Custom shoes require 2-4 weeks for fabrication.

Common Questions

See some common questions and answers below, or call us at 308-338-3550

  • How long will it take to receive my shoes?

This entire process can be quick but may take up to 4 weeks depending on your insurance carrier.

If you require a custom shoe, fabrication takes 2-4 weeks.

Self-pay individuals can receive their shoes within 1-2 days depending on the in-stock availability of the shoe style they choose.

  • Why do I have to see a MD or a DO?

Medicare regulations require a prescription obtained from a face-to-face visit with a medical doctor (MD) or a doctor of osteopath (DO) to cover diabetic shoes or insoles.
